The Difficult Conversations Toolkit
Every professional has at least one conversation they keep postponing. It might be telling a colleague their work is not meeting expectations. It might be pushing back on a manager who keeps piling on unrealistic deadlines. It might be addressing a peer who takes credit for shared work, or saying no to a request that crosses a boundary.
These conversations feel risky because we fear damaging the relationship, triggering conflict, or simply not knowing what to say. So we delay, we hint, we hope the problem resolves itself. It rarely does. And the longer we wait, the harder it gets.
In this interactive workshop, I will give you a practical toolkit for preparing, structuring, and delivering difficult workplace conversations with confidence and clarity, using a coaching-informed approach. This is not a theoretical session. You will work with realistic workplace scenarios and practise the techniques in real time, so you leave not just knowing what to do but having actually done it.
Learning Objectives. By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:
1. Recognise the patterns of avoidance that keep difficult conversations stuck, and understand why postponing them consistently makes the situation worse.
2. Apply a step-by-step conversation framework that provides structure and confidence, regardless of the topic or the relationship involved.
3. Open a difficult conversation effectively using specific, tested scripts designed to set a constructive tone from the very first sentence.
4. Manage emotional reactions during challenging exchanges, both their own and the other person’s, using techniques rooted in coaching and active listening.
5. Identify the one conversation they have been avoiding and leave with a concrete, personal action plan to have it within the next seven days.
