Recent randomized controlled trials demonstrate that AI coaching chatbots can match human coaches in facilitating short-term goal attainment. Yet these same studies reveal a consistent gap: when it comes to building trust, working alliance, and relational depth, human coaches remain significantly more effective across every measured dimension. This session addresses the central question facing the coaching profession: What is the unique, evidence-based role of the human coach in the AI era?\nLearning Objectives:\n• Evaluate AI’s role in coaching practice. Assess current AI applications in coaching and distinguish between domains where AI enhances coaching effectiveness and areas where human connection remains essential.\n• Apply Self-Determination Theory as an AI integration framework.
